The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced that Chile will be added to the Visa Waiver Program  (VWP) starting May 1, 2014. This means that eligible Chilean passport holders with an approved Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) and an E-passport will be able to visit the US without obtaining a non-immigrant B1/B2 visa in their passport.

The VWP programs allows visa free travel to the US for certain eligible travelers. Travelers must be visiting the US for 90 days or less for business or pleasure.

Chile becomes the 38th country to participate in the VWP.

DHS data indicates that in fiscal year 2013, 19.6 million visits to the US were through the VWP.
