Good news  for  spouses of H-1B visa holders.

On April 7, 2014 the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced its intention to publish proposed rules that will allow employment authorization for spouses of certain "high-skill workers" on H-1B visas.  Currently, spouses and other dependents of H-1B visa holders are not authorized to work in the US.

DHS did not indicate exactly when the proposed rules would be published or when the rules would be effective. DHS also did not indicate if the proposal would apply to all spouses of H-1B visa holders or if it would apply only to some yet to be defined sub-group.

This is very good news for the spouses of H-1B visa holders and we look forward to the rules be published as soon as possible. We will keep you informed of any developments in this area.
